During the intensive 2-month course of the KHN® Masterclass Hand Engraving Basic Module, you will receive a professional introduction to hand engraving on metal. You will learn how to prepare and sharpen the tool, the engraving cutter. You will learn how to engrave with a pointed and flat cutter and you will learn various basic engraving techniques, both the cutting and trembler technique, on a flat copper plate. A self-made tool set will be made with which you will work. You will acquire the basic knowledge of this authentic craft, so that you can continue independently at home with this decorative technique of hand engraving on metal.

 

The educational curriculum is developed based on an innovative hybrid master-journeyman method. A way of learning and working where both live and online and both group and personal and individual attention is given to gain knowledge. In this way it is possible to develop yourself in the hand engraving technique in a traditional and authentic way.

It is a 2-month course consisting of 3 parts. One month before the joint 5-day intensive LIVE practical days, the theoretical knowledge in the KHN Online Learning Environment is started individually. After the 5 practical days in the KHN® Knowledge Center Hand Engraving on Texel, the course will be completed individually at home for a month, under supervision, on weekly assignments via the KHN Online Learning Environment.   • Transfer design and carrying out assignments
  • Assignments are used to learn to constructively put the acquired knowledge into practice and the program can be built up with an eye for individual attention and personal processes.

This intensive Masterclass Hand Engraving BASIC is for everyone: young and old, hobbyist, amateur, beginner and professional. As an introduction, it is possible to participate in the introductory course hand engraving beforehand. No prior knowledge or drawing talent is required.

Masterclass BASIC November 2025

Masterclass Hand Engraving Basics - 17th OCT to 22nd DEC 2025 Hand engraving training full-emersion of 5 days.
The course starts online one month in advance (20.10) and ends online one month afterwards (22.12). The course lasts 2 months in total.
A 5-day intensive Masterclass Hand Engraving Basics is an intensive online combi live training in which we work on a solid foundation to be able to do hand engraving independently at home. During the module you work with your own hand-made tool set, you learn to sharpen engraving cutters, you learn basic engraving techniques and much more.
The course program has been developed based on a new formula. We will start with an innovative hybrid master-journeyman method. A way of learning and working where both live and online there is personal and individual attention to gain the knowledge and you develop in the hand engraving technique in a traditional and authentic way.
Assignments are used with which the program and the knowledge are built up constructively with an eye for individual attention and personal processes.
The preparations start one month in advance via the online learning environment with theory lessons. After the 5 practical days you will be guided for another month via the online learning environment with practical exercises.
 
The course is concluded with a KHN® certificate.
