Learn the Art of Traditional Gold Inlay on Steel
Discover the traditional dovetail inlay technique, a method that permanently secures soft metals such as copper, silver, brass, and gold into steel. During three intensive practical training days, you will learn step by step a centuries-old technique that brings together craftsmanship, precision, and aesthetics.
Although the technique is widely known as Gold Inlay, this basic course explores the use of various inlay metals, including copper, brass, silver, and—if desired—gold. The focus is on mastering the traditional dovetail technique, which forms the foundation for durable metal inlay in steel.

The program's content focuses on traditional hand engraving tools. You can make and sharpen your own new tools. It's also possible to restore a set of old cutters after time has passed and the skill of sharpening them has faded. You can learn traditional sharpening or learn to work with modern sharpening templates and a diamond grinding wheel. Materials are provided.
What is included
This is not an engraving course. However, the burins are personally tested and inspected for condition after sharpening. Some experience with hand engraving and using a chisel is therefore a plus.
The KHN® Foundation Course is suitable for learning expert hand engraving techniques and learning to make and sharpen a burin yourself.
